Are red roses good for skin?
Rose oil provides many benefits to the skin. Derived from Muscat rose seeds, rose oil is famous for its
formidable action on scars and wrinkles. It contributes to cell renewal and helps preserve its
youthfulness. Rose oil is rich in essential fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6), antioxidants (especially
vitamin E) and retinol. This high concentration of fatty acids helps repair damaged skin (acne scars, and
burns) improves the hydrolipidic barrier and the firmness of the skin. It is ideal for preventing or
reducing wrinkles.
The Native Cells of Rose To Illuminate The Complexion and Fight Oxidative Stress.
In cosmetics, the rose is used as a cell extract known as native plant cells. These result from a
biotechnological process that respects the environment and biodiversity. This technique works to
multiply cells from plant cell strains in a controlled medium. It preserves all the natural elements of the
plant. Rich in essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals, the native cells harvested have a molecular
richness which gives them a complementarity of action compared to other plant extracts (vegetable oils
and essential oils).
Native cells of the rose protect keratinocytes (epidermal cells which produce keratin) in several
ways:
• Limits the production of free radicals due to pollution. Oxidation leads to cellular dysfunctions and
accelerates skin aging. Red rose cells limit the release of malondialdehyde (MDA) during
lipoperoxidation induced by pollutant residues and heavy metals. MDA, naturally present in tissues, is a
manifestation of oxidative stress. This results from the action of reactive oxygen derivatives on
polyunsaturated fatty acids.
• Increases oxygen supply. This further decreases the creation of free
radicals and helps eliminate toxins.
• Limits the synthesis of inflammatory mediators released by oxidative stress, which increases the skin
tolerance threshold and reduces the factors inducing irritation and redness.
