Are face serums a necessary step in your skincare routine?

Serums are a cosmetic product with mainly moisturizing properties. In addition, depending on their formulation, there are anti-aging, antioxidant or skin illuminator serums. This product is characterized by its extra light texture and you can find it in different forms: gel, liquid or emulsion. This characteristic lightness not only facilitates absorption of the serum but also promotes penetration of the product to the deep layers of the skin. The result is fresh, hydrated and glowing skin. In addition, serums contains a higher concentration of active ingredients thanks to its formulation, which greatly increases the effectiveness of the treatment.

Why should you use a face serum?

Serums are a product that stands out thanks to its great moisturizing power. This is why it is advisable to use it especially when the first signs of aging are visible on the skin: small wrinkles, dull or devitalized skin, It is an excellent anti-aging treatment.

How do you apply serums?

The most important thing to know is that the facial serum is applied after cleansing the face and before the moisturizer. In order for the serum to work properly, it needs to be in direct contact with your skin. This is why it must be clean and free of any impurities that could possibly interfere with the action of the product.

How many times a day should I use a serum?

The benefits of the serum will not be visible without regular application of the product, it is necessary to be constant during its application. Experts advise applying it twice a day: once in the morning and once in the evening before going to bed. As mentioned above, always remember to apply it to clean damp skin and before the moisturizer. In case you prefer to use it once a day, we recommend that you do it before going to bed. Night is in fact the time for maximum cellular repair. Your skin will benefit much more from the serum at this time. However, the ideal remains to use it in the morning and in the evening, especially for skin over 30 years old. On the other hand, if you decide to use your serum in the morning, don’t use it as a substitute for your moisturizer.

What is the difference between a serum and a cream?

It depends on the effect you are looking for. In terms of hydration, the facial serum is clearly better than a conventional moisturizer. This is due to the high concentration of active ingredients present in its composition. Added to this important aspect is the fact that the light consistency and easy absorption of the serum allows it to penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin. A moisturizer works in the more superficial layers of the skin. On the other hand, it does take into account the fact that a facial serum will never contain sun protection, which is often the case with moisturizers. This is why a facial serum should never replace a moisturizer but rather be seen as a complement to it.

Should you layer serums?

It can be tempting to apply multiple serums at the same time to correct different types of skin defects. However, it is not recommended to combine these highly concentrated products because of an increased risk of intolerance unless specified by the brand. If you want to treat several skin problems, you can use a multipurpose perfecting serum or alternate several products with, for example, an anti-wrinkle serum in the morning and an anti-blemish serum on your own.

Are all serums equal?

Like all cosmetics on the market, not all serums are of the same quality. It is very important, especially when it comes to cosmetics, to make sure that the product you are purchasing is of good quality. Remember that you will apply the serum directly to your face and to visible parts of your body (neck, décolleté, etc.) and it is therefore important to do everything to avoid an unwanted side effect. Harmful effects are more likely in poor quality products. We therefore advise you to check the label of a serum carefully before purchasing it to ensure its quality.

When should you incorporate a serum into your routine?

Serum should always be applied on bare skin, after proper make-up removal. In this way, the penetration of the active ingredients is optimized to the deepest layers of the epidermis. For its effectiveness to be at its highest level, we slide a few drops of product into the heart of the hand, before heating the material palm to palm using circular gestures. Then place your hands on your face in two stages: first on the forehead and chin, then on the cheeks. We then tap on the key areas (corner of the eyes, nasolabial fold, frown lines), before finishing with a few smoothing movements, from the center of the face outwards.
